Giannis Papanikos is a freelance photojournalist. He was born and raised in Thessaloniki-Greece. In 2011 he started attending photography lessons at the "Stereosis" School of Photography in Thessaloniki. At the same time, he started his photojournalism career doing assignments for an environmental free press magazine and photographing art festivals and theatrical performances. In 2012 he started working on his first project called "Trisomy 21" photographing people with Down Syndrome with the cooperation of the Hellenic Down Syndrome Association. In 2013 he started photographing refugees living inside an abandoned building in Thessaloniki. He has also worked in many travel photography projects such as in India and Morocco. He is currently cooperating with Associated Press and he is a staff photographer of the Greek Agency Fos Photos. His work has been published in many foreign media such as The Guardian, Le Figaro, Daily Mail, MSN, The Telegraph, Le Monde, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and many others.
