Giannis Papanikos is a freelance photographer. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2011 he started attending photography lessons. At the same time he started working as a photojournalist covering news in Northern Greece. In 2013 he joined Fos Photos News Agency as a staff photographer and since 2014 until now he works as a stringer photographer for the Associated Press. Also since 2018 he works as a staff photographer for the Greek News Agency InTime covering news and sports. Through all these years he has covered the Siege of Kobani in 2014, the Greek Debt Crisis, the Refugee Crisis in 2015 until now and he has completed travel assignments in India and Morocco. In 2016 he was selected as one of the Young Greek Photographers at the Athens Photo Festival. His work has been published in local and foreign media such as The New York Times, Washington Post, The Guardian, FAZ, Le Monde and many others.
